On July 29th, 2007, Grey Gardens The Musical, said goodbye to Broadway. To most, including much of the cast and crew this came as quite a shock, especially since the show had just been nominated for 10 Tonys and received three. Christine Ebersole for Best Lead Acress in A Musical, Mary Louise Wilson for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, and William Ivey Long for Best Costume Design. The brilliant adaptation by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie was a fitting tribute to the two unique and strong woman who were immortilized in the orginal 1975 Maysles Brother's Documetary
Although it is rumored that the production was filmed for later airing on TV, that information is exactly that.... a "rumor"
Until that time, we are fortunate to have an incredible sound recording. Not only does the CD contain all 20 songs, but there was enough dialogue recorded to totally follow the story. So for those who didn't have the opportunity to actually see the show, this is surely the next best thing ! For those who were lucky enough to see this wonderful production on Broadway, the CD will make you feel like you were right back at the Walter Kerr Theater !
